Critical Lens Practice

February 29th, 2008 · 16 Comments

Hello there!  Please interpret the following quote and connect it to one piece of literature that you have read in the past.  Be sure to include how the quote connects to the literature, not just the name of the novel.  Be insightful!

“Most people would rather be certain they’re miserable, than risk being happy.”
–Robert Anthony

 Have fun ya’ll!

Change for the better

January 10th, 2008 · 15 Comments

As we approach an upcoming election (yes, think guys…there is an election coming up this year…like, a presidential one!) there are numerous topics in which the general population of this country feel very strongly about.  If it were up to you, what topic would be addressed first by a new president, and how would you like to see it changed?

Independent Reading

October 29th, 2007 · 9 Comments

We’ve been participating in independent reading for over a month now.  Tell us the name of the book you’ve been reading.  Would you recommend it to others?  What is it that you are enjoying about it?  Also, choose a passage from your book that you find particularly interesting and include it in this post–be sure to tell us why you chose that passage.

Thanks,

Stargirl vs. The World

September 28th, 2007 · 19 Comments

“You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.”  Dale Carnegie

Interpret the quote above–tell us what it means to you, in your own words.  Do you agree that taking an interest in other people is a way to make friends?  What if nobody practiced that theory?  What would happen then?  As we begin to read our first novel, Stargirl, make a connection between the main characters and the quote.

ps–please, please, please use correct grammar and punctuation for this post.  I was rather lenient with the grades for the last post.  Capitalize I when referring to yourself.

Gracias,

-Mrs. Styles

How Have We Changed?

September 11th, 2007 · 27 Comments

I find it appropriate to write about 9/11 since today happens to be 9/11.  It has been six years since the attacks, and this took place when most of you were only nine or ten-years-old.  I, on the other hand, was much older than that!  I felt strongly when it happened, I still think about what an awful tragedy that was, and I fear for another one.  My questions to you are:  Do you feel the same?  Is it difficult for you to really comprehend the magnitude of the attacks since you were so young when it happened?  Has your view on that day changed since you’ve grown a bit older?

Answer the questions, add some of your own opinions in, and make it an interesting and insightful post.  I’m looking forward to reading what you have to say!
